We have received an operational update from our transport partners regarding freight movements across Northern Australia.
West – East – West Rail Lane
Our transport partners have advised that their backlog of freight is currently clearing, and they are now seeing a reduction in transit times of approximately 5 business days.
Into and Out of the Northern Territory
Major flooding and heavy rainfall have caused widespread road closures across the Northern Territory. Key routes affected include the Stuart Highway, Tablelands Highway, Tanami Track, and Birdsville Track.
The Stuart Highway and Victoria Highway are currently closed. In addition, the Low Level Bridge in Katherine has been closed due to damage and is currently undergoing inspection by engineers.
Transport operators have trucks marshalled on either side of Katherine and are ready to depart once it is safe to do so. In the meantime, efforts are continuing to clear freight from previous closures.
As road reopening times remain uncertain, the current estimate is approximately 6 additional business days in extended transit times for freight moving through this region. Katherine has also received further rainfall today on already saturated ground, with more than 110 mm recorded.
Northern Queensland
There are currently delivery delays of approximately 3–7 business days while the backlog of freight caused by recent severe weather conditions continues to be cleared.
Our transport partners will continue to monitor the situation closely, and further updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
